Irregular verbs in Spanish

Irregular verbs form the larger group in Spanish.

As in English, these verbs are rarely conjugated according to fixed rules. For this reason, verbs should always be learned with their conjugation. However, there are also smaller learning tools, since some verbs are conjugated according to similar patterns.

The irregularities can affect not only the tree but also the endings or even both. Only the 1st and 2nd persons are always regular:

In the 1st person and 2nd person plural (nosotros, vosotros) all irregular verbs are regular.

Irregularities in the 1st Person Singular

Some verbs are only regular in the 1st person singular.

Vosotros/-as Ponéis
Ellos/-as, ustedes ponen

Suffix–zco

Many verbs with the ending -acer, -ucir, -ecer have the ending -zco in the 1st person singular present:

Conducir

Nosotros/-as Conducimos
Vosotros/-as Conducís
Ellos/-as, ustedes conducen

Other verbs are: crecer, aparecer, conocer, desaperecer, favorecer, introducir, obedecer, ofrecer, permanecer, pertenecer, reconocer, traducir
